Arooga's: Breaking the Mold

Not wanting to be lumped in with freezer-to-fryer sports bars, Arooga's was designed with the phrase 'scratch made' in mind. "When we started Arooga's, we wanted to put a lot of focus on our menu so that we stood out from many of our competitors," co-founder Gary Huether Jr. tells us.
The founders created a menu that includes items you might not find elsewhere - like hormone, antibiotic, and steroid free Wagyu Kobe Burgers and homemade Crab Pretzels baked in the shape of an "A" and topped with cheese and crab. The signature "Aroogarita" is made with fresh citrus juice and the Mixed Berry Mojito is made with fresh rum-infused berries and hand-muddled.
Arooga's works hard to attract an unusually diverse clientele that includes families, sports fanatics, college students, and business professionals. "We created a sports bar atmosphere with over 100 TVs per location for sports fans," explains Huether, "but also have a huge offering of draft beer and handcrafted cocktails, a vast menu containing items with all natural ingredients, as well as many gluten free options, and separate bar and dining areas. I don't think that you'll find this kind of diversity in other sports bars."
In addition to offering hormone, antibiotic, and steroid-free meats, as well as gluten free options, Arooga's has taken it to the next level by providing a full service "green" restaurant. The first of its kind in the state of Pennsylvania, Arooga's has been awarded a certification as a Green Restaurant from the GRA (Green Restaurant Association) and has taken additional steps to reduce its carbon footprint and effect on the environment. Arooga's carries no Styrofoam products, recycles all grease and cardboard, and uses only nontoxic cleaners and chemicals.
It is no surprise that this inclusive approach has reaped massive rewards from the community. Since 2012, Arooga's has been mentioned in multiple press releases and has walked away with a trophy case full of awards ? twelve to be exact. They have been voted "Best of the West Shore," "Best Bar/Club," "Best Late Night Dining Spot," and "Best Happy Hour" among many others. They have won "Best Wings" and "Best Sports Bar" for six years running from the Harrisburg Magazine's Simply the Best annual event.
